Literature Text

The cold wind blew past the two Jedi, a Master and a Padawan. Sunlight could hardly warm up anything in the cooling climate. The dark soil of Rannon was full of fallen orange leaves, yet a few persisted on the branches of trees. The fall had come to this distant planet before the Jedi.

Jedova noticed a leaf getting attached to his hair. The surface of these leaves had some sort of odd texture which stuck to their skin and clothes. And, in Jedova's case, to hair too. He raised his hand to get the leaf off. Sören, however, caught a leaf to his hand from the wind and looked at it. The Kajain'Sa'Nikto's face stayed expressionless as always, but Jedova could sense the Padawan pondering.
"Master, what do you think it would be like if we were like plants?" Sören asked.
"I don't know. We wouldn't need to eat that much and those who need oxygen could make it. If they had sunlight, that is," Jedova noted and tried to get the leaf off his palm.
"That would be nice," Sören said. "But what if we had to shed that plant-like part like these leaves and grow new ones later? Or if there was not sunlight available?"
"Then we would get our energy resources from something else, like food," Jedova noted, ripping the leaf off his hand and let it go. Yet part of it stuck tightly to it, much to the Jedi Master's own dismay.
"I guess so. But what about those to who oxygen is poisonous?" Sören asked.
"Maybe they had something different then. Maybe they would not make oxygen," Jedova said, now trying to scratch the remaining part of his leaf off his palm.
"But photosynthesis always makes oxygen. If it wouldn't, what then?" Sören asked.
"I don't know. Something else," Jedova told. The remaining leaf stuck to his palm too well to his taste.

Sören turned to look at his Master who was behind his back. He could hear from the tone that Jedova had something else in his mind. As he saw some more leaves now sticking to his Master, he sighed. Jedova did not like this planet and its most common tree's leaves, but Sören himself liked it.

The leaves, sticking so hard to whatever they touched, reminded him of his own resilience from the time when he was an infant to be taken to Jedi training. It had been difficult but he had gone through it. He gave Jedova the Kajain'Sa'Nikto's equivalent of smile and took a leaf off his jacket, letting it go.

They had been facing difficult tasks, yet they had persevered. And Sören knew that they would continue persevering against all the difficulties they would ever encounter in the future.

After all, they had come this far. Why not go all the way to the end?

Revised 31.8.2017.

Fraggit, the title does not allow ö! Gah, whatever. So, this is my 1st flash fiction month 2015 and also corresponds to a deviation of mine. Sören, Jedova's first Padawan and a Kajain'Sa'Nikto, came to Jedi training from difficult conditions. This made him quite persistent. Therefore his season is Fall.
